The ultimate day out, with something for everyone, this is one of New Zealand’s premier family attractions, with numerous activities designed for recreation & relaxation.

Explore New Zealand's highest mountains, ice and snow fields, see twelve major glaciers and fly over 200 kilometers of breathtaking alpine scenery. From the beautiful, turquoise glacier-fed lakes in the east, to the great ice fields spilling down through the west coast rain forests into the Tasman Sea below.

The start of this track is located next to the Tekapo springs complex. The track rises steadily up through the exotic forest and then open tussock hill slopes. Mt john is fantastic viewing platform with a 360-degree panorama of the surrounding mountains, lakes and Mackenzie basin flats.

Golfers playing the fairway to the highest green with its uninterrupted vistas of the Mackenzie basin and the Ben Ohau Range will be oblivious to the raging waters deep beneath them as the water of Lake Tekapo passes through a tunnel from lake to power station on the start of its journey through the Waitaki Hydo Power scheme.
